Using MS POWERPOINT files in Training Content Manager (TCM) SECTION CONTENT

Presently the ShareVision Add-On Training Content Manager (TCM) requires a Microsoft PowerPoint file (that may be attached to training Section Content) to be downloaded to be viewed in a slideshow.

As ShareVision investigates possible solutions to this issue a work-around is available which is described below. The process below enables a file to be directly viewed in a browser tab by clicking on a link within the Training Section content.

Step-by-step guide

Three things to do

  1. Prepare PowerPoint file.
  2. Upload file to ShareVision doc library.
  3. Within the Training Content, add a hyperlink to the file in the document library.

PREPARE POWERPOINT FILE

Usually, on a Windows machine, your user account desktop location is c:/users/(your user account)/desktop.

  1. Open PP file
  2. Press Alt+F11
  3. Press Ctrl+G
  4. Copy and paste the following in the 'Immediate' box:
    1.  ActivePresentation.SaveAs "c:\users\(user account)\desktop\<filename>.htm", ppSaveAsHTML, msoFalse
      1.  Ensure you edit the (user account) and <filename> portion (to name your file as desired) appropriately.
    2.  Place the cursor at the end of the text and press 'Enter'.
  5. On your desktop there should be an html/webpage file and a folder of assets with the same name.

UPLOAD FILE

  1. Navigate to Site Actions> View All Site Content> (select a document library).
  2. On the menu bar, click the arrow by Upload and select Upload Multiple Documents.
  3. Either click+drag the files you created into the indicated area or use the browse button to navigate to the desktop and your files.
  4. Click done when uploaded. (Note; when uploaded, ShareVision displays both the web page and the folder as one file).

LINK FILE IN TRAINING CONTENT

  1. In the document library, right-click the file link and choose 'Copy link' (or 'Copy Hyperlink', 'Copy Link Address'). (You can paste this into a text doc if you want to).
  2. Navigate to the training section where you want to link the file and edit this section.
  3. In the {Content} section, type your text that will be the clickable link. For example 'Click HERE'.
  4. Highlight the text with the cursor and click on the icon in the field menu bar that has a chain link in front of a green disc.
  5. Replace the 'http://' in the field with the url link address of the file you copied before.
  6. For the 'Target' setting, choose 'New Window'.
  7. Click OK/Insert.
  8. Click OK to save the Training Section.
