Edit Permissions Caution - Warning

Applies To Version(s): 3.5 & 3.7

When “Editing Permissions” on a list or library, you must be careful to not “Manage Permissions of Parent”, which will result in removing all the permissions on your site.

This page inherits permissions from the parent Website.  On the Actions menu you have 2 options.

NEVER choose option 1 – Manage Permissions of Parent


If you choose “Manage Permissions of Parent” you will get to this page:  Notice the URL is now:  ShareVision [your site] >  Site Settings > Permissions

Notes on page the page state: “Use this page to assign permission levels to users and groups. This is a top-level Web site.”


If you correctly choose – Edit permissions:


You will get a warning →


Click OK – you do want to create unique permissions for this list.  The page you get to next retains the breadcrumbs to your list.



You can now select which groups you wish to remove, by ticking the boxes in front of the items, and then selecting – Actions - > Remove
